Rest is a Weapon (part 3): Rest Restores Strength

The world tells us that effort equals success. Yahweh tells us that strength comes from stillness.

“For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15) (ESV)

I love this verse so much because the Hebrew words used here for returning, rest, quietness and trust paint a picture of withdrawing from the everyday noise and hustle – of getting still and quiet – of listening – of trusting that while I am resting He is still moving.

It is from this heart posture that Isaiah says we are “saved” – liberated, delivered, given the victory. This is where we find our “strength” – valor, bravery and might.

Come on, y’all! This is good stuff right here!

I find that when life is busy and my days feel a bit chaotic, an endless stream of responsibility, obligation and tending to the things and people that need tending to, it is often when I step away from all that and get quiet and still that I find the strength to finish the day well. Something as simple as stepping outside for a few minutes, away from the visual stimulation and noise that seem to envelope me, can shift my thinking and settle my spirit.

Rest resets the natural rhythm of life as Yahweh intends it to be.

Scripture is clear on the importance of rest. Isaiah 40:31 reminds that “They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.” When we wait (linger for, lie in wait, hope, expect) on Yahweh, we are readying ourselves for His presence and for what He will speak into us next.

Waiting is not passive. It is spiritual attentiveness. It is drawing energy from a Source that never runs dry.

When we rest:
• our mind clears
• our emotions stabilize
• our spirit becomes sensitive to God’s leading
• our decisions become wiser
• our focus sharpens
• our inner strength returns

Operating from rest means we are no longer reacting to life. We are responding with God-given clarity and purpose.

PRAYER
Father, thank You for creating me to enjoy every cycle of life – rest and motion, waiting and doing, knowing and trusting. Teach me today to look for moments of rest – nuggets of time alone with You, listening for Your voice in every situation. Restore my life rhythm, teaching me how to find strength in moments of rest and waiting. Your joy is my strength, I love You. Amen.
