Rest is a Weapon (part 2): Rest is Warfare

Passage:
In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.”
(Isaiah 30:15)

Pondering:
In Scripture, rest is deeply connected to trust. It is an acknowledgment that His ways are higher than ours, and even though the pressure around us is heavy to keep moving forward at all times, His wisdom prevails and His heart can be trusted.

One of my favorite verses about rest is Isaiah 30:15. it reads:

In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.”

What I love even more is the depth and clarity of the message as we break down the verse in the original language.

Here, the word used for repentance is suba (pronounced shoo-baw). It means “retirement” or “withdrawal.” When someone retires or withdraws from something they take a step back from it, taking their hands off of it.

The word for rest is nahat (pronounced nakh-ath). It means “quietness; a quiet attitude; rest.”

Next is the word for saved. It is yasa (pronounced yaw-shah). It means “to be saved, liberated, delivered; to be victorious in battle.”

Can you see the picture becoming more clear?

Next is the word for quietness. It is saqat (pronounced shaw-kat). It means “to be quiet; tranquil; to be at peace; to be quiet, rest, lie still, be undisturbed; to be inactive.”

The word for trust is bitha (pronounced bit-khaw). It means “trust, trusting, confidence.”

And finally the word for strength. It is gebura (pronounced gheb-oo-raw). This word means “strength, might, valor, bravery; the mighty deeds of God.”

So if we put this all together, what Yahweh is saying to His people is something like this:

“When you take a step back from what you are facing, and be quiet before Me, your deliverance will become evident. I want you to stop all your running around trying to fix it, be still and let My shalom cover you. If you will simply trust Me, you will find the strength you need to rise up in My might, my strength and My valor, and you will see My mighty works being enacted on your behalf.”

Rest is a spiritual stance. It is a refusal to live by fear, urgency, or self-reliance.

When you choose rest, you are saying:
• “God, I trust You with my pace.”
• “I refuse to be driven by pressure.”
• “I believe You can do more with my surrender than I can do with my striving.”

This kind of rest terrifies the enemy, because it positions you under the strength, covering and clarity of Yahweh Himself.

Breathe in deeply. Now let it out slowly and pray this prayer:

Prayer:
Father, thank you that You are for me and not against me. Today I choose to lean into Your heart and stand on the promises in Your word. Teach me to trust You completely in every situation. I turn my thoughts away from the pressures of this world and choose to focus on the fact that Your ways are higher than mine, and that I can enjoy the pleasures and benefits of true rest as You instruct me in your war strategies in the secret place. I love You. Amen.
